Dismal Swamp State Park

Dismal Swamp State Park allows a unique wilderness experience in a landscape that has been witness to American Indian hunting parties, exploration by George Washington and the story of the Underground Railroad. The park features 20 miles of trails, beyond a 2,000-foot boardwalk that puts visitors in the midst of the Great Dismal Swamp. Birding and viewing abundant wildlife are favored activities. Mountain biking on the trails and kayaking the adjacent Dismal Swamp Canal are both encouraged. Visitors may bring their own equipment or rent at the park. Regular interpretive programs about the wetlands ecology and history of the famed swamp complement museum-quality exhibits in the visitor center.

This was by far one of the best walking sites me and my girlfriend have been to! There was a lot to see and the staff was very nice. I really like that they take your information down before walking on any trails, for safety precautions! The gentleman at the gate was informative and very respectful:) Can't wait to come back again!

Went the 27th of may my son got bit by a dog not once but twice not even 15 mins into the first trail it was reported instantly and not handled well we was told someone would come back to meet my bleeding son noone came back we asked bicyclers who passed by if we was clear to get out the path and not be attacked again and informed the ranger had let them pass with their dogs when we reached the ranger he tore out to the gate left us to walk and was rude and put out over it acted like we was the problem and ruined his day the dog was left to go home even though it was admitted known to bite as well as visible bites dog had just made on my son the animal control I called on wens. Where I informed them of the dog and I was told they were going to go to try to get the dog idk what day it was gotten but it has already been released to bite again and was not even held 10 days as if the experience was bad enough and or trip in which we had to travel for got ruined my son is mentally scared as well as will be physically scared now I'm getting a hard time about getting a copy of the report ......the visiting center people r not included in this comment they were nothing but nice helpful and tried to help in every way they could ty to the only people that took the time out there days to help us out u know who u r as for the rangers and the trail park idt we will ever waste our time and money to be treated that way again
