Gaston Dance, Inc. was founded in 1982 and is the non-profit governing body for Gaston Dance Theatre. The mission of the organization is to stimulate interest in dance as a serious art form, promote and foster dance in the greater Gaston County area and provide educational and performing opportunities for talented dancers.
The School of Gaston Dance Theatre offers a graded curriculum of professional quality instruction for all students, beginning to advanced. The curriculum includes Ballet, based on the Vaganova Syllabus, as well as Modern Dance, Jazz and Tap. The Preparatory Dance Division offers dance classes for children ages 3 to 6. Students from the Upper Division of the school may perform in productions staged by Gaston Dance Theatre. There are currently eight full-length ballets in our repertoire, including The Nutcracker, which is performed at Christmas. Other ballets in our repertoire are rotated and performed annually.
Gaston Dance Theatre is a regional dance company which was founded to serve a cultural need of the community by creating and/or presenting a classical repertoire of classical and contemporary dance works by various choreographers, new and established. Company dancers must be at least 13 years of age and trained in ballet, modern and jazz.
