Mission:
Kings Mountain Historical Museum's mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret history through exhibits, educational programs, tours, and other appropriate means, in order to foster a deeper understanding of the history of our community and the region.

History:
Kings Mountain Historical Museum was chartered in 1986 as a nonprofit corporation with assistance from former Mayor John Henry Moss, Mrs. Hazel Herndon Fryer, and several other dedicated community members who strongly supported the idea of developing a museum to honor Kings Mountain’s history.

Initially, the Museum consisted only of storage space in the attic of the old City Hall building. As the number of museum objects collected continued to grow, many homes and offices were recruited to store items. The Board of Directors approached the City of Kings Mountain about using the old Post Office building, which had been empty for ten years. The City bought the structure from the Federal Government in 1987 when the Post Office moved to its new facility. After several years of hard work by tireless volunteers, the building was restored and the Museum officially opened in the fall of 2000.
