About Us:

Manbites Dog Theater, a professional non-profit theater company founded in Durham in October 1987, serves the Triangle area of central North Carolina. Manbites Dog's purpose is to produce new and challenging theatrical events; showcase and nurture developing playwrights, directors, actors, and artists; facilitate cross-disciplinary and cross-community projects; and help strengthen this region's theatrical community.

In March 1997 Manbites Dog purchased a 6,500 square foot building on Foster Street near downtown Durham to serve as a permanent performance space for the company. The building opened to the public in fall 1998.

Manbites Dog has mounted more than 60 productions in the last 19 seasons, many of them regional or state premieres, as well as a broad range of local and national guest artists and companies in the Other Voices series. The 2006-2007 season , our twentieth, inculdes Manbites Dog's productions of The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, an oak tree, The Pillowman, and At the Vanishing Point, plus Other Voices presentations by guest companies, including Little Green Pig's The Cherry Orchard and In the Doghouse, both hands theatre's exactly what t(w)o do, and Ghost & Spice's Joshua Lozoff: Beyond Belief.

Manbites Dog's company-originated original productions over the years have included Indecent Materials, Hotline, Walking Miracles, A Tune for Tommy, Plays Well With Others, plus the 2003 world premiere of Bucknaked: a love story. Other Manbites Dog events have included Don't Ask Don't Tell presentations of queer theater and performance.; and PuzzleHunt, a free, outdoor, interactive performance event held every few years in downtown Durham.

Manbites Dog Theater's 2006-2007 season is made possible in part through gifts to the Durham Arts Council United Arts Fund, and by grants from the NC Arts Council, an agency supported by the state of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts.
