Mission and History

In 2001, Charlie and Angie Flynn-McIver, a couple with roots in North Carolina moved from New York City to found NC Stage.  We have been producing professional theatre in Asheville for over 12 years!  We are dedicated to creating theatre that is as consequential as it is entertaining.  Our dedication to artistic excellence and exploration includes our Education programming and Community Engagement.  We are proud to be the originators of the Catalyst Series, a program that financially supports other local arts organizations that do not yet have their own production space. NC Stage is a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

NC Stage has been voted best local theatre 8 out of the past 9 years in the Mountain Xpress Best of WNC Poll. NC Stage was also recently awarded the American Theatre Wing National Theatre Company Grant.

North Carolina Stage Company is a professional theatre in downtown Asheville, North Carolina working with members of Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States, under a Small Professional Theatre Tier 4 Contract.

A delightful experience. Professional actors, who were very good indeed. An intimate theater experience. We will definitely attend future shows.

Always a first date production. Seats provide close and intimate performance experience. I highly recommend as one of Asheville's best theater's.

A wonderful little black box theater headed by a dedicated director and a core group of professional actors good enough for New York stages. Always entertaining and often adventurous, NC Stage is my favorite theater in Asheville, narrowly besting the Asheville Community Theater. Reasonably priced tickets and there are no bad seats in the house. The actors always come to the lobby after the curtain for handshakes, hugs and selfies. A true gem of Asheville.

Play was a good as expected. The coziness of the theatre is what gives it it's charm.

Had a great time! We saw Jeeves takes a bow. Sets, costumes, and acting were spot on. We'll be back.
