History:

Construction of North Moore High School, located between Robbins and Highfalls, began in 1964 on 53 acres of land purchased in October 1961 at a cost of $15,000. A dedication ceremony for the $1 ½ million state-of-the-art facility was held the following year with Dr. Amos Abrams, Assistant Executive Secretary of the NC Education Association, as guest speaker.  The first day of classes was held on September 1, 1965 with 465 students enrolled.

Students from the former Elise, Highfalls, and Westmoore High Schools formed the student body, leaving those schools to serve students through the 8th grade.  The name “Triumvira”, from the Latin meaning “three become one”, was chosen for the yearbook to symbolize the coming together of the students from the three former high schools.  Cecil Hackney, principal of Elise High School, was chosen as the principal for the new high school.  He continued to serve as principal for 19 years, retiring in 1984.  Larry Upchurch became principal at that time, followed by Ed Todd, Percy Degraffenreid, Keith Kremer, Michael Tylavsky, Scott Absher and presently, Jennifer Purvis.

As North Moore approaches its 50th Anniversary, the school continues to serve the students of Robbins, Highfalls, and Westmoore with a strong sense of community spirit and pride.  Go Mustangs!
