The Perfect Summer Day in North Carolina

North Carolina offers a long list of activities to enjoy no matter the season. But in the summer, the fun is seemingly endless. If you’re lucky enough to be spending time between Asheville and Charlotte, experience everything from gorgeous golf courses to top-notch barbecue. Here’s how to have the perfect summer day in North Carolina!

1. Stay at the VanLandingham Estate Inn

The VanLandingham Estate Inn is a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of Uptown Charlotte, not far from the Governor’s Mansion. The inn is set on five acres of beautiful grounds, so you can feel like you’re in the country, even as a city mouse. Each room offers different features and you can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast before you head out for the day. Take advantage of the historic estate’s hospitality as welcoming place to return at the end of busy summer day.

2. Play golf at Pinehurst

North Carolina is known for its golf so take adventure of your time in the Tar Heel State to get in a game. The Pinehurst Estate is a golf resort that dates back to the turn of the century and has hosted modern legends. Feel like a pro as you have your own Pinehurst experience on any one of nine courses. Make reservations in advance to get your perfect tee time.

3. Eat barbecue at Buxton Hall

No trip to North Carolina is complete without a taste of barbecue. You’ll find different styles of cooking and sauces in the state and Buxton Hall is a favorite. Run by two James Beard award winners, Buxton Hall is a newer spot on the barbecue scene but has already become a local favorite thanks to the all wood technique that focuses on pork. Located in a historic building, Buxton Hall gives a taste of old traditions meeting modern design.

4. Shop Main Street in Weaverville

For handmade pottery, jewelry and other trinkets to take home, this is an awesome option. The small town is not far from Charlotte and gives a taste of small town life with locally made goods and products. You can find artistic creativity and other specialty items in the shops that line Main Street, along with plenty of cafes and dining opportunities for when you need to refresh and reload.

5. See a Hornets game at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte

This is the best way to finish out your evening before heading back to the inn. If you’re not in town for basketball season, then check out one of the huge events or big name concerts that come to town. The Spectrum Center is fairly new and has become a huge focus for things to do in Downtown Charlotte. You can find traditional sports fare as well as more upscale eateries throughout the spacious venue.
