The Perfect Halloween in North Carolina!

The ghosts and ghouls are out, and the cauldrons are full of candy. Halloween is here, and it is time to celebrate! Some dress up and trick or treat, some attend a party, and some enjoy the thrill of haunted houses, trails, and mazes. In North Carolina, there is a bit of everything for every way of Halloween celebration. Here is the perfect Halloween in the state with scary locations, and all the best, chilling events to attend. 

1. The Candy Factory, Lexington, NC

Every Halloween needs a bag full of delicious Halloween candy and what better location to fuel your sugar rush than the location named the best candy store in the state by Food Network Magazine! Stock up on delicious chocolate, licorice, old-fashioned favorites and more to enjoy before taking off to the rest of North Carolina’s best Halloween hot spots. 

We visited the candy store while waiting on the truck to be detailed at Sam’s Car wash.

2. Fear Farm, Clayton, NC

Fulfill your will to be frightened at one of the best haunted attractions in the area, Fear Farm. This haunted scream park of Clayton is sure to make you scream, and fuel your paranoia the rest of the night, long after you leave. The Fear Farm Factory, the Black Hole, Fear Forest Haunted Hayride, the Slaughterhouse, the Farm House, the Walk in the Dark, and the Haunted Maze are all open and ready to make you experience the terror of the night. 3. Halloween Express, Multiple locations

Get costumes for every family member, furry family members included, at Halloween Express. For a perfect Halloween, a perfect costume is necessary! At the Halloween Express, you can pick from a variety of adult, children, and pet Halloween costumes. Adults can dress up as animals, famous figures, scary beings, and there are plenty of silly options. Children can dress up as everything from a princess, idolized superhero, and every cute animal you can imagine. Fido needs a costume too and can dress up along with the family!

4. Brown Mountain Lights at Brown Mountain Ridge

With residents of North Carolina dating back to the first settlers of the country, there are plenty of spooky spirits still lurking about in search of peace. The mysterious Brown Mountain Lights are a phenomenon that is best discovered during the autumnal season. The lights do not occur every evening, but those who do visit and spot them can associate the balls of light with several different urban legends that have floated about the area. 

5. The Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington, Wilmington, NC

The Ghost Walk has been recognized as one of the “Top 5 Ghost Walks in America” by USA Today, making it necessary for your list of Halloween events. This hour-and-a-half walk will tour Wilmington’s haunted homes and burial sites. As you explore, you can listen to ghost stories and actual encounters during previous tours. Touring these eerie locations since 1999, this locally-owned tour of the city is sure to give you chills.

6. The Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC

For the possibility of a spooky experience, tour or stay at, the Biltmore Estate. The Biltmore Estate is a beautiful, historical location in Asheville with plenty of spirits to greet you during your visit. Being so old to the area and with so many people coming in and out through the years, this location is great to search for supernatural activity this Halloween. And even if you do not catch the spirits on a good day, the Biltmore Estate is a gorgeous location to view the décor and get a sense of the history in and outside of its walls. 

7. Poplar Grove Plantation, Wilmington, NC

Prepare your best ghost hunting gear as you travel through the Poplar Grove, and its hot spots for ghosts and ghouls. Locations such as the Manor House, Tenant House, and large portions of the rest of the grounds, are spirit hot spots. The Paranormal Ghost tours begin in the creepy Manor House basement, and you continue through the grounds in search of possible spirits that may stir. Spirits from as early as 1850 to the 1950s lurk about the plantation, giving plenty of opportunities to interact with the paranormal.

8. Batty Battleship’s Halloween Bash, Wilmington, NC

In October, take the kids to trick or treat in a unique way, on the Battleship North Carolina. This family-friendly outing ensures a fun, safe Halloween experience without the scares. The evening includes trick or treating, games and activities, and storytelling. Jump into your costumes and prepare for a fun Halloween celebration! 

9. Haunted Pub Crawl, Wilmington, NC

Tour haunted pubs of Wilmington the right way this season, with a drink in hand! Drink away your fear as you tour the city’s local pubs on a two-and-a-half-hour pub crawl. Drink and explore while you listen to true ghost tales, including those of murder, mayhem and more! The Haunted Pub Crawl of Wilmington has been featured in Southern Living, The History Channel, and Our State Magazine.
